Kabaddi is a game that originated in India and requires skill as well as the power to play the game. It is the only Indian game that has gained vast popularity around the globe recently.

Kabaddi is the national sport or game in India and has different forms:

  • International Kabaddi. Many other countries will also join the tournament.
  • National Kabaddi. The national kabaddi games are mainly recognized by the amateur Federation in the national style. The National style of this game is the Sanjeevani style, the second one is the circle style which is also known as the Punjab style, also the indoor and national games. In the style at the national level, they also add beach kabaddi and national professional kabaddi.
  • At the international level, only three kabaddi federations are recognized and that is Amar, Gaminee, and Sanjeevani. 
  • If we talk about the Punjab circle style, it’s Amateur Circle kabaddi organized by the government. 

This game is also popular in various country’s regions:

  • Hadudu In Bangladesh.
  • Baibalaa In Maldives.
  • Chedugudu in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Sadugudu In Tamil Nadu.
  • Hututu In Maharashtra.

Kabaddi is not only India’s national game but Bangladesh and Nepal also come on this list and it is also the state game of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Telangana, and Maharashtra. 

In the world, India is the most successful team in kabaddi and won many world cups and also the Asian game title. In Punjab, this game is most popular as a tradition and also popular in South Asia.

So here is the list of kabaddi award 

  • Arjuna Award: This award is given by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The Govt. of India is recognized for outstanding achievement in national-level sports. The Arjuna Award was instituted in 1961 and this award also carries a cash prize of 500000 and also a bronze statuette of the great Arjuna with the Scroll.
    • The scope of this award expanded and many of the sports which existed before the existence pre – Arjun Award were also included in the list. In this game, some other criteria are also added like physically handicapped.
    • Recently the government. revised the scheme of the Arjun Award and as per the new guidelines that this award only belongs to those whose performance is consistently good over the last three years at the international level he also has leadership qualities, a sense of discipline and also sportsmanship. 
    • The Winner of the Arjuna award is Shri. S.M. Shetty -1972, he was the first winner and the first woman who received this award is Kumari S.P. Khatavkar in 1978 -79. 
  • Padma Shri: Padma Shri award is the main award of India and also the fourth highest award in the republic of India, after Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan. This award is given by the Govt. of India to its citizens. On Republic day this award is announced every year. 
  • Dronacharya Award: This award is presented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and sports the gov. of India has excellent coaching in sports. The winner got the bronze statuette of Dronacharya, a scroll of honour, and also cash of Rs. 300000. This award was first instituted in 1985.
  • Dhyan Chand Award: This award is presented to acknowledge the lifelong contribution of the players towards a sport. It is the highest lifetime sports award and is named after the legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. The kabaddi players are also awarded this honour for their lifelong contribution to the sport. Manpreet Singh was given this award recently in 2020.
  • Ekalavya Award: It is an honorary award too in the field of sports. It is an initiative by the Government of Karnataka. O. Sushmita Pawar received this award in 2016.
  • Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award: This award was previously known as Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is one of the highest honourable awards for youth and sports in the Republic of India and is presented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

These awards are the most prestigious and honourable provided to the players of the sports area. The Kabaddi players are also provided with these awards for their outstanding performance in the sport. These are a means of recognizing their skills and honouring them for the same.
